In the 2024 NFC Championship showdown, the San Francisco 49ers started strong, getting a quick 7-0 lead with a touchdown from Christian McCaffrey. The Detroit Lions, however, stumbled early, turning the ball over multiple times in the 1st quarter. A fumble by David Montgomery paved the way for a George Kittle touchdown, extending the 49ers’ lead to 14-0.

Struggling and down by two touchdowns, Lions’ quarterback Jared Goff threw an interception to Brown, and Brock Purdy capitalized with another touchdown pass to George Kittle, making it 21-0. Facing a 3-touchdown deficit, Goff threw yet another interception, this time picked off by linebacker Oren Burks. The turnover resulted in a 1-yard touchdown run by McCaffrey, giving the 49ers a commanding 28-0 lead in the 2nd quarter.

Down 28-0, the Detroit Lions rallied and scored their first touchdown of the game with a handoff to Jahmyr Gibbs, cutting the lead to 21 points. The Lions added another touchdown in the 3rd quarter, a 30-yard pass from Goff to Kalif Raymond, but that marked the end of their scoring efforts.

San Francisco responded with a 12-yard touchdown pass from Purdy to Kittle, making it 38-14. The 49ers’ defense took control, with linebacker Dre Greenlaw tallying sacks on the Lions’ next possession. The 49ers would go on to score again, securing McCaffrey’s third touchdown.

Heading into the 4th quarter with a 45-14 lead, San Francisco maintained their dominance, blocking a punt and gaining excellent field position. Purdy connected with Brandon Ayuk for another touchdown, extending the lead to 52-14. Goff continued his struggles, throwing his third interception to Charvarious Ward in the 4th quarter.

The game concluded with an exclamation point as Christian McCaffrey secured his fourth rushing touchdown, sealing the victory for the 49ers with a dominating score of 59-14. The NFC Championship unfolded as a one-sided affair, showcasing the 49ers’ offensive prowess and defensive strength, leaving the Lions facing a resounding defeat.
